A new boutique Reformer Pilates studio has opened its doors in the heart of Uttoxeter.
Studio52, based above a food outlet in the town’s Market Place, has been launched by fitness professional Fi Maunder, who has worked in the industry for more than 25 years.
Fi said she had ‘always known’ she wanted to open her own studio and decided earlier this year that it was time to take the plunge. She was determined to stay close to home as a single mum of two, with the biggest challenge being finding the right location.
The space had stood empty for four years, having previously been home to a branch of Gymophobics, an Indian restaurant and a tearoom. The studio now has six Reformer Pilates beds and offers classes seven days a week, with sessions running throughout the day.

Fi said: “I wanted it to be a smaller, relaxing setting where you can get to know the instructors and the other people in the class. There isn’t anywhere like it in Uttoxeter – I knew there was a gap in the market because I was travelling myself to do classes.
“It’s my passion and I want other people to experience it – and the response has been really good. I promoted it a lot on Facebook before we opened and built up plenty of interest.”
Fi teaches around 80 per cent of the sessions, supported by three other instructors. Alongside Reformer Pilates, she plans to add mat-based classes later this month and work on collaborations with local businesses, including sound bath sessions.
She added: “The name Studio52 came about because I was in my 52nd year when I decided to do it. I turned 52 five days before we opened and I want people to know that age is just a number. Sometimes you just have to take a risk – I don’t want to go through life with regrets.”
